Preppy Text One

In this tutorial I will teach you how to make your text like this:

Materials needed:

  • Any Photoshop Version, we are using Photoshop CS3.
  • A gradient, you can find these here at ingeniouss!
  • Dot Pattern.
  • Stripes Pattern.
First you will write out your text. Anything you'd like is fine, for this tutorial I will write 'ingeniouss'. I personally think some fonts look better when they're kerned. If you'd like to kern your text feel free too. Click Here to learn how to kern text.
Next make sure your text layer is selected and go to layer>layer style>gradient overlay. Select your gradient color and change the angle to '0'. Next click the stroke button and change the color to #333333 and the size to '2'. Finally, click the bevel and emboss and set the soften to '16'. Click Okay.
You should have something like this:

Now, make a new layer and merge visible. Go to Layer>Layer Style>Stroke, change your following settings to:
  • Size - 2
  • Fill Type- Gradient (Select your previous gradient)
  • Angle- 0
Select Pattern Overlay. Your settings should be:
  • Blend Mode- Screen
  • Opacity- 10
  • Pattern- Select the stripes pattern I provided you with.
Click okay.
You should have something like this:

Next, make a new layer and merge visible. Go to Layer>Layer Style>Stroke, change your following settings to:
  • Size - 2
  • Fill Type- Color (#ffffff)
Click okay.
Finally, make a new layer and merge visible. Go to Layer>Layer Style>Stroke, change your following settings to:
  • Size - 1
  • Fill Type- Pattern (Select the dots pattern I provided you with)
Select Drop Shadow Your settings should be:
  • Distance-0
  • Spread-0
  • Size-5
Click okay, and your done!
Your text should look something like this:
